The Dream That Can´t be Achieved

“You don´t need to be a super hero to get there”

How many times have you used the word “dream” in your life? In the sense that this is “my dream” and I will or I wish to achieve it one day.

I think we all have at least one thing that we “dream” about. However, it can´t all be achieved.

Or can it?…

Dream, Huh?!

When Martin Luther King gave the speech of “I have a dream…”, he didn´t just share with the world what he imagined. He followed that by working hard to turn it into reality. He also once said that: “Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase”.

Lets focus on that: taking the first step.

We have been hearing about the amount of work one should put in their dream to turn it into reality for so long yet we still struggle. Have you ever wondered why?

In my humble opinion, it´s because we are only focusing on the “dream” part, which is by definition: “an imaginary series of events that you experience in your mind while you are asleep.” according to Collins dictionary.

So let´s start by setting goals instead. Just to give ourselves the chance to achieve them. You can´t expect yourself to work towards something as long as you are keeping it imaginary rather than realistic.

Beaten Down

I want you to take a second while you are reading this and think about all the times you were actually about to or have just started to work on making your dreams real. Then think about the people around who found something wrong with it.

Let me give you an example. Someone who wanted to open a restaurant and a person telling them that there is a million other restaurant so it won´t work. Or someone eager to start painting then hearing some comments about their incapability to do it.

Some people can immediately bring you down when you are on the top of the world by making you feel stupid or “uncool” according to their standards. This is completely normal. When someone can´t do what you do, it is easier for them to bring you down instead of them rising up so don´t let it phase you.

Take Charge of Your Life

I am not going to tell you to listen to positive comments only. However, I will tell you to not let the negative ones get in your head and stop you from starting.

That being said, it is important to differentiate between concerns and negativity. Take the concerns seriously and find a solution for them, it will definitely help you grow in the right direction.

Once you are set with that, move to the next step. Take a pen and a paper or open your laptop, and set that goal of yours at the bottom of the page. Then start writing the steps to reach it. If you want it to be achieved, you HAVE to put the effort!! You can´t expect a plant to grow when you don´t water it.

The moment you stop dreaming and start achieving instead is the moment you turn that dream into reality. Otherwise, it will always be: the dream that can´t be achieved…
